@Steve_Rhoden Boris FX employs a lot of great tutorial creators: Ben Brownlee, Vin Morreale, John Dickinson, Elizabeth Postol, etc.

Vin Morreale has created many "Vegas + Boris FX" tutorials and is Boris FX's Vegas expert.

Elizabeth Postol's mastery of Vegas Pro is also demonstrated in the "Mocha VEGAS Essentials" tutorial series ( videos posted in this post ) .

@Former user  ... Yes. The DL is available from: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-21-now-available--142064/

But it only comes with Vegas Pro 21 Suite and Vegas 21 Post (not Edit) - and doesn't appear in earlier VP versions.

I tried the trial version of VP21+ mocha and it works great! A must have for me. I find it sad that this is denied to the edit version and there isnt enough good stuff in the there otherwise to justify it's £149 upgrade. Normally the Edit version is good enough for me so this time I had to buy the Suite. This means I also have bundled software I dont need. Sound Forge Audio Studio 17 which ok I will use but I had V15 and that will do me. Then there's Magix Music Maker AND Acid Music Studio which I dont need. There is Primatte Studio which is nice but rather more advanced than I need.
I do hope Mocha Vegas will continue to work in subsequent versions of Vegas.

@Dexcon Thanks, 2019 I got V Post but hardly ever used VE, so in 2020 I just got V Edit, I have Mocha Pro plugin+standalone so I'm still debating whether it's worth me upgrading to the suite or just get Edit again., I want to try out V Mocha but maybe I'll wait & there'll be an irresistible offer come at some point,

Dexcon wrote on 8/16/2023, 9:14 AM

@Former user  ... IMO, if you don't have Mocha Pro, it's a slam-dunk decision to go for Vegas Pro Suite or Post to get Mocha Vegas. It provides a very convenient access to some of Mocha's tracking data features within Vegas Pro - and they've done it very well. But IMO, Mocha Pro OFX offers so much more though processed in a different way within Vegas Pro. For example, Stabilisation in Mocha Pro OFX works well within Vegas Pro as a one run process that ripples through to VP, but stabilising in Mocha Vegas also requires the Mocha Pro tracking data to be transferred to VP21's Picture-in-Picture FX on the event in order for stab to work. It works really well but is much easier with Mocha Pro OFX. Again, Mocha Vegas is absolutely brilliant if you don't have Mocha Pro OFX.

@Dexcon Yep, I've had Mocha Pro for a few yrs & I'm glad it's finally been inc in a way that's very affordable to VP users, I agree 'if you don't have Mocha Pro, it's a slam-dunk decision to go for Vegas Pro Suite', that's why i created that other post to start the discussion & hopefully encourage new users to seriously consider the suite version that incs Mocha. 👍

lan-mLMC wrote on 8/16/2023, 11:02 AM

I'm still debating whether it's worth me upgrading to the suite or just get Edit again.

@Former user Now Mocha VEGAS and Vegas have achieved true deep integration: Without leaving Vegas UI, you can transfer Mocha Tracking data, Mask data, and Roto data to Vegas Motion Tracking Panel or Bezier Mask FX with almost one click.

This was impossible in the past. In the past, we needed to export a data file from Mocha and import that file into the Motion Tracking Panel of Vegas. This is very verbose.

It is not yet known whether the Pro version of Mocha can do this.

In order to achieve this deep integration, Boris FX not only needs their original OFX development knowledge, but also needs to learn some Vegas scripting/extension programming knowledge. This fully demonstrates their sincerity!

@lan-mLMC Thanks for that, the quote above is interesting, I was wondering about that because I have the latest Mocha Pro but as you say the Export of data is from within Mocha & then needs to be applied in Vegas, If Boris did decide to add 'Vegas scripting/extension programming knowledge' to the plugin version that would be in everyones version whatever host they use, Boris make an OFX & Adobe version but I doubt they would make a separate Vegas version with these extras inc. Maybe they could tho because some Boris fxs or parameters don't show in Vegas so maybe an easier way of transferring that tracking/masking data could be implemented in the Vegas parameters of the Mocha Pro plugin version as they have on the Mocha FX version. 🤷‍♂️ (If Mocha FX is a separate download I guess it is already a Vegas plugin version)

Got to be honest tho, I hate the Vegas masking bezier points, even on my 32" screen they're difficult to adjust, It's just as easy for me to reopen Mocha & adjust if needed, same goes for tracking of any kind, so for me it's more work or should i say harder work to use Vegas mask or Motion tracking. but as has been mentioned if you don't have Mocha already this Vegas Suite is a 'slam dunk' & should be seriously considered when buying, it's well worth the extra £50 .

Mocha Pro in the past has slowed my timeline to a crawl, improvements have been made by Boris & Vegas reg this, so what i do hope is that this Mocha FX is a bit more inline with Vegas & performs better, compared. perhaps the transfer of the data from Mocha helps speed things up as all will be worked with from within Vegas. After the data has been transferred can Mocha be closed & what is the backwards adjustment like, can Mocha be reopened & the data then reapplied to an existing bezier track or would it need a new bezier/track?

-----------

Sorry just rambling...

@Former user Don't worry, you hardly need to adjust them, because everything is adjusted in Mocha, and the transmission to Bezier Mask FX should only be for the fluency of playback. Of course, most Vegas users are more familiar with Bezier Mak FX than Mocha. You are one of the few exceptions.

After the data has been transferred can Mocha be closed

You can turn it off or not, because Mocha will not affect the event at that time. Of course, the tracking data is still there inside mocha. So you'd better not delete that Mocha event fx in case you want to readjust the tracking later.

what is the backwards adjustment like, can Mocha be reopened

If you want to readjust the tracking, you only need to delete Bezier Mask FX or PIP that have received data, then reopen Mocha UI to adjust it, and then transmit it to PIP or Bezier Mask again.

the data then reapplied to an existing bezier track or would it need a new bezier/track?

I haven't tried whether it will be transmitted to the existing Bezier mask fx. But this is a trivial matter, because once you decide to readjust the tracking, you need to delete the existing bezier mask in most cases.

Former user wrote on 8/16/2023, 5:19 PM

@lan-mLMC Thanks. I'm still deliberating but you know how it goes, when it comes to it I'll end up spending that little extra because I don't want to regret it later 😁 Also yeah you're prob right, I got Vegas initially because I wanted Mocha, it's timeline etc. is very similar to Magix MS which I've had for 20yrs but that is a very basic program & I want more control, so Vegas was just a step up, I skipped Vegas tracking/masking & went straight to Mocha. Stepping back trying out Vegas tracking/masking i find it a bit frustrating, whether that is lack of experience or that I've just been spoiled with Mocha i don't know 😁, maybe this Mocha FX will fix that for me.

@Former user There is no doubt that Mocha is a better tracking and Masking(roto) tool. Most Vegas users are more familiar with vegas' own tracking and masking just because they are not as rich as you. Vegas tracking and Besier mask are almost developed and maintained by one engineer (This reflects the shortage of engineers in Vegas Team.), so it is far from mature. It can only get better bit by bit in the constant feedback from users.

monoparadox wrote on 10/1/2023, 4:56 PM

Just a heads up that may make some of your work easier with the Mocha Vegas plugin. I've found a few idiosyncrasies depending on what kind of an event I'm applying the tracking data to. For example applying to a standard Vegas text event seems to work the easiest. But try to apply the tracking to a Boris Titler event for example and I get a crash every time. Experimenting with nested projects has yielded a lot of flexibility. So, basically apply the tracking data to a nested event containing another event and it seems to take pretty well. I'd be interested to hear what some of the rest of you are running into.
