VEGAS_CommunityManager wrote on 6/26/2017, 10:16 AM

Dear community,

We have come a long way and to date we've provided 6 updates for VEGAS Pro 14 – some with minor, some with major improvements, but most importantly always with progress. This is why we want to keep pushing forward and are proud to present the 7th update of VEGAS Pro 14 to you.

You can download the build 270 now at: no longer available.

Here are the patch notes for this update:

  • Audio from ProRes 422 HQ files now plays properly
  • Multi-channel audio files now show up correctly with new ProRes plugin
  • Both channels of a stereo ProRes are now properly recognized
  • The first frame is no longer repeated in renders to ProRes and HEVC formats
  • Audio from 4k files shot with the Atomos Shogun 4K Recorder is now supported
  • Audio from ProRes 422 files shot with Black Magic cameras now properly supported
  • H.265 MP4 footage from DJI Phantom 4 Professional Camera Drone now supported
  • The keyframe event "Set To" context menu operation of an OFX video effect now adjusts the keyframe value as expected
  • Markers and regions are now properly saved inside the Trimmer window for ProRes and HEVC files
  • Certain HEVC files that failed to load in previous builds are now supported

As always, feel free to share your feedback. We appreciate hearing from you!

Best regards,
Mathias

I happen to be working on a project as I write this that was shot ProRes out of a BMCC camera, and was having a hell of a time with it crashing on me every 5 minutes (I couldn't even render the files to proxy without crashing). This update sounds VERY promising that you may have squashed that bug, just in time for me to deliver this project. I'm anxious to try it out and see. Thank you for putting so much attention on the prores stuff, hopefully this also fixes the bug making Vegas ProRes files incompatible with FCP.

Really????

First, correct the old known bugs. There are many of them. We send bug reports to your team - unexpected program termination, editing errors, tearing preview, Ignored new GPU, etc. Stop ignoring us. Thank you!

It's year 2017 but Vegas is still a dinosaur. 😡

I understand the frustration, I still have projects hang on me if I forget to pause the playback before I delete a clip, a bug that has been in vegas since at least VP11 if not farther back than that. However, I also realize how difficult it is to take someone else's broken program and trying to fix it vs. starting from scratch. I'm willing to give them a chance. Already VP14 is infinitely more usable for me than 13 was (minus Dolby Pro support... one aspect I was disappointed did not make it into this update). I do still feel like I've got more beneficial additions in single updates to VP14 than I got in entire version updates previously.

I've also reported bugs that got squashed within 2 weeks once an update was released. I this is the second time I've had a project get hung up by a Vegas bug, only to have them drop an update just in time that fixes it. Just because they're not getting all bugs doesn't mean they aren't getting any.

Yes, a great example. Error from version 11 - 14 !!!! There are many more.

Yes, it is true that Vegas 14 is now more stable than previous versions.
Yes, it is true that it has new features. But new mistakes.

For me, the Prores update is not a priority, but a fast stable editing without errors.

Vegas Team must first get rid of old bugs and speed up previews in timeline.

ProRes is an industry standard format, you can't complain about Vegas not being modernized and then say that modernization does not matter to you, only a stable app. It needs heavy doses of both.

That said, this update didn't fix my problem after all. I think it has something to do with the text generator, as all of the clips in my media pool become clones of that one text file when it starts to hang, it looks like I have a bunch of copies of the same text file over and over again.

When I say Sony / Magix Vegas, I hear the answer - it's the software for wedding and holiday cutting, right?

Why do I hear that answer?
Because Vegas is still full of old bugs and is obsolete.

I love Vegas and I am sorry for his reputation.

Yes, it's good. Not everyone needs it.
I repeat - more important at this moment is stability and speed Vegas

You write ..... That said, this update didn't fix my problem after all.

A great example of a new update. The Vegas Team does not solve our problems.

@pierre-k Vegas 14 isn't a full rewrite - it's an update to old code and has been bolted on to so many times that the only way to get it right is to completely rewrite from scratch. Vegas 15 is in development and my understanding is it will be unlike previous versions of Vegas Pro - for the better.

Why isn't this being announced directly from the software? I am being told there is no news to report...

Is it possible to notify registered users by e-mail of updates? You are able to send us advertising so why not updates?

Being that none of the items in this update apply to what I use, I will skip this update. As in, there is nothing there for me!

If you are so dissatisfied with the product with the product just use another program. There are free and what I consider inexpensive (less than $500 or $30 a month) that might fit you better. We have seen a lot of effort to improve Vegas and these fixes are coming in the middle of preparing 15. Your posts are not constructive, just move on.

There is the preference "Net Notify" (snapshot attached), but it doesn't informed me there is an update available. Actually, even I click on menu "Help>Check for news" there is no information about this update. I never received an update information directly through Vegas software, so I'm wondering if "Net Notify" isn't somehow buggy.

Just updated to build 270 and it broke my P2 AVC-Intra 100 files. Only showing green frames (on timeline) and scrambled video like an old problem in a previous Vegas.

We send constructive contributions directly to the Vegas team. Without success. It is unnecessary to work on a new version of Vegas 15 when version 14 still has old bugs. Versions 12-14 are defacto the same. Nothing revolutionary. The Vegas team had plenty of time. We do not need another bad Vegas 15.

Buy different software - that's your bad argument. If we all buy other software, then the Vegas will end.

how can a program that is supposed to be pro (even semi-pro) and does not support hardware properly with really bad preview and so many crashes...i dont get it. ofc prores is a big step forward, but its like adding 500hp to a car that has no wheels. i cannot have proper preview of simple 1080p files on a $4k pc and to avoid crashes i had to set ram preview to 0...and thats really frustrating imo

Exactly! We want to fix old bugs in version 14 !!! Not in the next versions a year or more.

My $2K computer outputs 1080P (ProRes & Sony) to both a 4K Tv and 4K Monitor with no issues, so perhaps you should seek a refund for your computer purchase kinetik.

pierre-K - no it just good advice to someone who can't get the performance they want out of a program. Those who keep doing the same thing (like using a program that won't work for them) are doomed to the same result every time. Lots of folks leave Vegas and come back, see how easy Resolve and Fusion are to use.

Pierre-k, some time a seller and buy don't match, in this case you should move on. Too much pilot error in this thread, goodby.

I am very happy with Vegas Pro since the first version after horrendous results with Premier's abnormally complex workflow. My very light usage of Vegas 14 only problem is rebooting my router during activation initiation.

I'm suprised that the beta team (which I was part of for more than twelve years) was simply dropped / discontinued.

I've bought Vegas 14 twice now and still haven't been offered a way to report bugs :)
